Finally, a moment to think
We’ve made it through the launch of Massively extremely well. Our final contests are running now and gathering lots of love. It’s just a question of following up and getting loose-ends all done with. I’m surprised how many people haven’t responded when we’ve mailed them notifying them that they won. At least two were polite enough to mail back and say “thanks, but no thanks.” Well, let me rephrase — one mailed me back and let me know he was only interested in a prize if it was a game. Of course, considering the giveaway he won in didn’t have a game as a prize at all, it made me wonder why he was wasting his time entering. Obviously, he didn’t read the entries, which is a real shame. He would have saved us both time.
In other news, my primary desktop machine is starting to scream from age and stress. I really have beaten the crap out of it, especially with the games I’ve been playing of late. So, today I ordered the parts for a new machine. (AMD, of course. Intel can bite me.) Luckily, I have two SLI cards here already, so I got to save muy dinero that way. Got a nice combo deal on a fast processor and mobo through Newegg. I was originally looking at a barebones on TigerDirect, but the fact that they were hitting me for almost $100 extra for one week shipping and taxes rubbed me the wrong way. I can get it shipped to me guaranteed within three days from Newegg without having to deal with ridiculously expensive shipping, no taxes, and far cheaper when it came to several of the parts. If I would have only been buying the barebones, yeah. I could see where I’d have saved a few bucks… Maybe. Well, okay, maybe not. I just wish Newegg offered better barebones setups. I saved a bundle, but on the other hand, spending 4-5 hours poking around in their omgoverloadofstuff makes it a questionable savings considering what my time is worth these days.
Doing a keyed-down dinner thing this year with friends. This is one thing that I honestly prefer this way. Sure — my mom can make some excellent stuffing, but I like the idea that as opposed to everyone being glued to football afters, we’ll instead be gaming. Yes, I am that much of a dork. Besides, football bores me. The only fun about football to me is the commercials. Well, and that part where it’s over. I like that bit too.
And hey, nobody will be trying to convince me of the whole “we should be thankful for the Pilgrims and the Indians who ate together in friendship” bullshit. You wanna thank my ancestors? Make amends with the tribes that are there now (and I don’t mean smacking another Casino down on the reservation) uphold the 360+ treaties you made with them, and we’ll talk. Until then, pass the pie and keep that load of crap to yourself.
Besides, it’s better to be thankful every day as opposed to once a year. I like my version better, so I’m sticking to it. ![]()
